For our Adobe Photoshop project, we were tasked with creating an album cover for an album or song of our choice. I chose to create a cover for the song “all-american bitch” by Olivia Rodrigo. When brainstorming for my cover, I came up with imagery relating to an ‘all American girl’ aesthetic and 60’s aesthetic. Olivia Rodrigo’s lyrics lend themselves to imagery that helped me craft my project. For example, the lyrics, “Coca-Cola bottles that I only use to curl my hair” inspired me to hand curl Coca-Cola bottles into my friend Katie’s hair for this photoshoot. I wanted the four pictures to convey an almost manic breakdown of this idealized perfect ‘all-american girl’. However, in the last picture, we see that even through the breakdown, she is still putting on a smile to try and maintain this perfect image of herself. In the song, Rodrigo has an interlude of screams, to which she ends the song saying “All the time, I’m grateful all the time. I’m sexy and I’m kind. I’m pretty when I cry.”
